Irish childrenswear designer shortlisted for top award
Dubliner Cairenn Foy's childrenswear line has achieved a milestone after just a year in business, after being shortlisted this week for 'Best New Brand 2018' in the prestigious Drapers Independents Awards.
The kitchen table startup has rapidly developed into a luxury brand, since the mum-of-three launched the venture in February 2017, initially because she couldn't find soft, cotton clothing for her daughter, Ava, who suffered badly from eczema.
The label specialises in affordable luxury dresses and knits for little girls, from babies up to seven years. It is stocked in 18 stores including Brown Thomas, Avoca, Wolf and Badger in the UK as well as its own website, Cairennfoy.com.
"We are very close to securing our first stockists in Australia and the Far East," says Ms Foy whose achievements are all the more impressive because she is "a team of one".
"Win, lose, or draw, I know the success or failure of my company is down to me which is as much nauseating as it is motivating," says Ms Foy .
Ms Foy spent 10 years at a large blue chip firm and five years working for a retail ecommerce website before studying design at the Grafton Academy.
The UK's Princess Charlotte has triggered a renewed interest in timeless, traditional dresses for little girls that can be passed on. In addition to her range of dresses, Ms Foy also sells cardigans handmade in Dublin and next week, will start showing an extended range of Communion dresses in silk, cotton and Borderie Anglaise for the SS19 season. The Drapers Independents Awards will be held in London in September.
