Income tax relief A honey trap for talent

Ireland's Special Assignment Relief Programme is a tax relief programme that aims to encourage overseas talent to come to Ireland. It was revamped in 2010 and conditions were relaxed.

If you qualify, you can limit your tax exposure on all earnings up to €100,000 plus 50 per cent of earnings and benefits over €100,000.

If you're an employee moving to work in Ireland for the first time and due to be based here for at least a year, you may be eligible. It applies only to individuals with certain skillsets and talents, however.

Some tax experts, including PricewaterhouseCoopers, argue that this doesn't do enough to attract Foreign Direct Investment compared to what other countries are doing.
