Icon agrees deal for BeijingWits firm


Icon plc, the provider of services to the pharmaceutical industry, announced that it has agreed, subject to closing conditions, to acquire BeijingWits Medical Consulting Ltd, a leading firm in China. The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2012. BeijingWits has a strong track record in clinical trial execution in China.

Central Bank takes up scrutinising role


The Central Bank has announced the successful completion of a joint project with the Irish Stock Exchange, giving the bank the power to scrutinise investment prospectuses once more. The exchange has been scrutinising the prospectuses for several years on behalf of the bank. But under European law the role of prospectus scrutiny has to be returned to the Central Bank by December 31, 2011.

EirGrid's €21m Kerry line investment


EirGrid, the electricity transmission system operator, yesterday announced a new investment in Co Kerry. The company announced a new 110 kV power line that connects Tarbert to Tralee, including works at both substations. The line, which represents an investment of €21m, reinforces the network in the region.
