Hot summer turned savers into spenders
HOUSEHOLDS spent more during the summer months than the previous three months, pushing savings down.
The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show spending between July and September increased by €215m to €19.75bn, with consumers perhaps spurred by the good summer weather. But as a result, savings fell by €51m during the same period, signalling we weren't putting as much away. Gross saving for the total economy jumped €1.6bn in the third quarter, from €6.2bn to €7.8bn.
