Hope for economic stimulus as BoI names new director
BANK of Ireland has a new director – Bradley Martin, who is Fairfax Financial's vice president of strategic investments. 'The Punt' worries about the increasing trend for business people whose names work backwards and forwards.
Bradley Martin – is it a boy or a girl? In the case of the Fairfax Martin, it is a boy but there are other, better known Bradley Martins who are women. The Bradley Martin ball was a lavish dance held at the Waldorf in New York on the night of February 10, 1897. One Cornelia Bradley-Martin organised the ball for 800 worthies with the intention to create an economic stimulus for New York towards the tail end of the 1870s Depression.
Bank of Ireland has already helped to enrich and then beggar around 800 developers and socialites over the past few years. We can't help hoping the latest director does not follow in his namesake's footsteps and try something similar again.
