High Court decision due on appeal over data breach award
A High Court judgment is expected to be given this week after an insurance company appealed against an award of €15,000 damages to a man over a breach of his data protection rights, writes Colm Kelpie.
FBD Insurance did not pay out on a claim relating to a stolen van because Michael Collins allegedly did not provide information about a previous conviction.
The case had already been brought before the Data Protection Commissioner after Collins said FBD failed to disclose the full documentation it had on him.
The judgment is expected to be delivered in the High Court on Thursday.
