Former Ervia and Irish Water senior manager Conor Coyne has been appointed executive director at Kylemore Trust, parent company of the historic Kylemore Abbey and Victorian Walled Garden in Connemara, Co Galway.

A native of Connemara, TCD-educated Mr Coyne was also a manager at EY, and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.

His new role will involve further developing the infrastructure and product at Kylemore to support the Benedictine community, who will mark 100 years in residence next year.

Another priority is to boost the visitor experience at the 1,000-acre estate, which the trust says is the area's biggest employer.

Mr Coyne said he had immediate plans to announce a sustainability strategy.

"We are currently undertaking an ecology and biodiversity review, which is assessing how we can reduce our environmental impact," he said. "We have commenced a journey to electrify our fleet and will have completed this over the next two years.

"Our goal is to be carbon-neutral within the next five to seven years."

Other investments include the construction of a monastery, which he sees as "a monumental project for Kylemore, as it will provide the Benedictine community with a new base at the start of their second centenary".
