Glanbia announces investment in new US facility

Irish dairy producer Glanbia has announce it is in advanced discussions to build and operate a new cheese and whey facility in the state of Michigan in the US.

It is proposed that 50pc of the joint venture will be owned by Glanbia and the remaining 50pc will be owned by DFA, MMPA and Foremost Farms.  The plant is projected to process 3.6m litres of milk per day.

Glanbia will have full responsibility for all commercial, technical and operational aspects of the business, while DFA, MMPA and Foremost Farms will supply all the milk required by the plant.

“Glanbia is delighted to announce this exciting proposed project in the state of Michigan with DFA, Michigan Milk Producers Association and Foremost Farms,”said Brian Phelan, CEO of Glanbia Nutritionals.

“This proposed joint venture is a strategic move by all the partners to benefit from the growing, large-scale milk pool in the State of Michigan,” Mr Phelan added.
