Get growing with the web
WE have seen many measures of the growth of e-commerce over the years.
Now though, a fascinating new report from the OECD has laid out the power of doing business over the internet in particularly stark detail.
According to the report, as much as 13pc of US output is now generated from internet related activities.
That figure may seem quite low but put it alongside manufacturing, services and other sectors and it gives you some idea of just how big a part the web plays in every avenue of our lives today.
In the words of the think tank OECD, "this underlines the importance of the internet as an important source of growth in a period of economic downturn and a core component of the broader economy".
That sentence will certainly give succour to the Government which has so unashamedly put most of its eggs in the internet basket, and it will also lend credence to the Google-backed campaign to get more Irish businesses online.
The campaign teaches business people how to set up and maintain a website for their company. In this day and age, there is no excuse for not having one.
