German interior minister Thomas de Mazière said Europe does not want the technology sector to be as badly regulated by Ireland as the banking sector once was.

We don’t want to have the same disaster like we’ve seen in the financial system a few years ago,” he told RTE news.

EU interior and data protection ministers held meetings in Brussels yesterday to discuss reforms to data protection regulation.

The Government here is worried about a flood of appeals from citizens elsewhere in Europe. Only one of 30 of the world’s leading data companies doesn’t have a European headquarters in Ireland, according to Government figures.
