Cork-based lighting technology group Nualight has teamed up with US refrigeration firm Hussmann to develop what it claims will be a $100m sales opportunity.

The Irish company, which has been heavily backed by Enterprise Ireland and the ESB, has agreed an alliance with Hussmann to develop and provide lighting to food retailers. It enhances Nualight's reach into North, Central and South America.

Nualight and Missouri-based Hussmann, which is part of the Ireland-headquartered Ingersoll Rand global industrial group, will combine sales and marketing efforts to secure new business and reduce costs.

Nualight chief executive Liam Kelly said the firm now had more than 200 employees after being incorporated just five years ago. He believes that a new system engineered by the two companies helps to improve the appeal of food on display in stores.

Nualight also recently announced a partnership with Sainsbury's for a specific LED lighting programme in refrigerated displays across some stores. Nualight's customers also include Tesco, Morrisons and Marks & Spencer.
