FAILTE Ireland director and former Ireland and Munster rugby star Frankie Sheahan (above) is chairing a taskforce seeking to tap into a potential €500m that the tourist body thinks can be brought into Ireland through sporting events.
British firm The Sports Consultancy has been hired to advise the group. The 2016 Rugby World Cup, which is being held in England, is one event that could be capitalised on by Ireland.
Sheahan has also recently added a celebrity speakers service to his Front Row events business, with rugby heroes like South African Francois Pienaar and local Shane Horgan on his books.
