Former management 'must take the blame for the mess'

ANGLO Irish Bank boss Mike Aynsley was dismayed at the depth of the "carnage" he discovered after taking over the bank, but he has had some positive experiences in his Irish tenure.

"I'm generally very happy with the workforce I have now," he said last night. That workforce includes an overhauled management team and about 1,000 staffers from 'old' Anglo.

Despite launching a broadside at the failings of 'old' Anglo in a staff email this week, Mr Aynsley says the people who were "fundamentally making the decisions" have already left the building.

"You hear a lot of people who say they'll take responsibility because they were in management, but 'it wasn't really my fault," says Mr Aynsley of the old guard.

"If there were failures and you were in management, then whose fault was it?"
