Family of dead runner consoled by relatives
THE family of a young man who tragically collapsed and died running a half marathon in Dublin's Phoenix Park were last night being comforted by friends and neighbours.
Tributes poured onto the Dublin Marathon Facebook website praising the ambulance service, who had gone to the young man's aid.
William Claffey Jnr (28), a UCD law graduate, who was originally from Moate, in Co Westmeath but living in Dublin, collapsed at around the 11 mile mark in Saturday's half marathon in the Airtricity Dublin Race series.
Both fellow runners and the St John's Ambulance crew immediately attended to him at the scene.
He was then transferred by ambulance to hospital but later pronounced dead.
