Factory gate prices down 0.3pc

FACTORY gate prices fell 0.3pc last month, reducing inflationary pressures in the wider economy.

The price of goods destined for export slipped 0.2pc, while the price of goods destined for the home market was down 0.6pc.

The biggest monthly declines were seen among basic metals which slid 3pc, electrical equipment which was down 1pc and meat products which fell 0.9pc.

The most significant rises were seen in the price of concrete, glass and ceramic products, and fabricated metal products.

Factory prices are up 2.5pc in the past 12 months. In the year there was a rise of 2pc for goods destined for export and an increase of 4.4pc in the price of goods for the home market.

Meat and meat products leaving the slaughter house have risen 8pc over the 12-month period, while computer, electronic and optical products are up 3.6pc. Wood and wood products fell 2.6, while furniture was down 1.9pc.

In the construction sector, there were price rises across the board. Materials prices increased by 2.2pc, with the most notable yearly increases seen in copper pipes and fittings, which jumped 18.6pc.
