Export prices push up costs of factory goods

MONTHLY factory gate prices increased by 0.3pc in April as the price of goods destined for export rose, indicating that companies are pushing through price increases overseas, writes Sarah McCabe.

Prices are still 0.5pc down from the same period last year, meaning the annual percentage change rose 1.9pc in April.

The price index for export sales rose by 0.5pc in April while the index for home sales fell by 0.3pc. In the year, there was a 2.2pc increase in the price index for export sales, while the price index for home sales rose 0.9pc.

The most significant changes were increases in meat and meat products, which saw price gains of 3.5pc. Computer, electronic and optical products advanced 1.6pc, while dairy products were up 1pc.
