Export firms upbeat while home traders still suffering

Exporting companies are more upbeat about the state of the economy than they were three months ago, according to IBEC's latest business sentiment report.

However, a separate report by Ulster Bank shows the rate of decline in activity in the construction sector is the sharpest since last October.

The two reports demonstrate the deep divergence occurring in the economy between companies involved in the exporting market and those solely serving the domestic economy.

Exporters are particularly confident about the future, with 30pc planning to increase staff within the next three months.
