THE country received a much-needed employment boost yesterday with confirmation that 210 jobs will be generated by a wholesale distribution firm and a computer services operator.

The Cork-based Barry Group is to create 110 new jobs in a €5.5m warehousing expansion drive and an increase in its superstore network.

A total of €3.5m will be invested in a warehouse expansion in Mallow. It is hoped construction work on the project can begin in early 2011.

Barry is also investing €2m in four new BuyLo superstores. These will be opened in Killarney, Waterford, Dublin and Shannon later this month.

Meanwhile, computer firm Salesforce.com also confirmed it was recruiting for 100 new positions.

Salesforce.com is an enterprise 'cloud' computing company that employs almost 300 people in Dublin.

"The investment will further strengthen Ireland's position as a cloud computing centre," said chairman Dr Steve Garnett.
