Ex-architect gets ahead in hats

WHEN Aisling Maher graduated from university after studying architecture, she found that the property market had collapsed and jobs were scarce. So she retrained in millinery at the London College of Fashion.

Her bespoke hats and headpieces are worn by fashion figures like Xpose's Lisa Cannon, Glenda Gilson and RTE's Emma O'Driscoll.

She's having early export success too, with stockists on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, the well-heeled town of Naples in Florida, in Paris and across Europe and around Ireland.

Aisling is currently rushed off her feet, selling 100 hats a month -- all of which are hand made at The Design Atelier workshop and boutique in Limerick.

Cheltenham was a winner for her order book and she is now racking up pre-orders for both the Punchestown Festival and the Galway Races.
