ESB appoints Pat O’Doherty as chief executive
ESB has appointed its international operations director Pat O’Doherty to the €318,000 a year chief executive role.
It is understood that the two front runners to succeed Padraig McManus had been Mr O’Doherty and John Shine, the company’s deputy chief executive.
As well as heading up the international operations, Mr O’Doherty is also believed to know the network business well.
Mr O’Doherty’s salary was set in stone by the Minister for Public Expenditure Brendan Howlin – and he will not be entitled to any bonuses.
The only additional benefits he will be entitled to are pension related and he will also get a company car.
His appointment comes at a time when the Government is looking at the sale of some state assets to raise much needed funds.
