Eir - formerly Eircom - posted a second consecutive quarter of revenue growth and a third consecutive quarter of EBITDA growth in the first quarter of its financial year.

The company has been struggling in a highly competitive market in recent times but the figures will cheer management after a high-profile rebrand.

Revenue jumped 4pc year-on-year to €325m, and EBITDA jumped 6pc year-on-year to €120m.

"This solid financial performance, together with our recent brand launch, provides real momentum as we continue our transformation in an increasingly competitive market," chief executive Richard Moat said.

The company added 16,000 new broadband customers in the quarter.
