Dunnes Stores registers new firm in possible streamline bid
SUPERMARKET giant Dunnes Stores is believed to be undertaking a corporate reorganisation of its business interests.
The secretive retailer has just registered a new unlimited firm, Dunnes Stores Retailing, with both Frank Dunne and Margaret Heffernan listed as directors. Tom Sheridan, who acts as an alternate director and secretary of other Dunnes' companies, has also joined the board of Dunnes Stores Retailing.
Sources close to the company said they were unsure as to the reasoning behind the new entity, but suggested that it would not be connected with any internet strategy as the retailer doesn't have the distribution or IT systems necessary to launch such an offering. It's possible the new firm could be used to streamline the retailer's existing maze of registered companies.
Sources have also confirmed that former Superquinn second-in-command James Wilson is due to start work with Dunnes Stores after Christmas.
It's unclear as yet what his role will be and what his move will mean for existing senior Dunnes executive Dick Reeves.
