Packed-out crowds to see 'Love/Hate' star Tom Vaughlan-Lawlor put on a stellar performance contributed to Dublin Theatre festival profits more than doubling last year.

The 'Nidge' star, Sinead Cusack and Ciaran Hinds packed out the Abbey Theatre for the premiere of Mark O'Rowe's critically acclaimed 'Our Few and Evil Days'.

New accounts lodged with the Companies Office show that profits at the firm that operates the Dublin Theatre Festival rose by 151pc to €31,669.

But revenues dipped slightly from €1.9m to €1.89m.

Revenues from ticket sales increased from €450,568 to €478,782. The largest proportion of income for the festival comes from the Arts Council that last year provided grant funding of €766,000 towards the event.
