AVERAGE Dublin rents were up just over 10pc in the year ended June, new figures show.

By comparison, rents outside the capital increased by 2.6pc, figures from the Private Residential Tenancy Board show.

300,000 rental properties are registered with the PRTB and one in five households is in rented accommodation.

Rent increases were 10.5pc in Dublin in while apartments rose by over 12pc.

The figures also show that tenants earning the average industrial wage of €36,000 are spending 41pc of their net income on rent.
