DUBLIN City Council has signed an agreement with energy provider Energia.

The 'green' energy deal means the company will buy the the excess electricity generated by wind turbines in Fr Collins Park, Donaghmede, Dublin.

The renewable energy will then be supplied to homes and businesses across Ireland by Energia.

The two and a half year agreement covers the five, Dublin City Council 50kW wind turbines.

Energia currently supplies unmetered electricity for public lighting to most County Councils and many local authorities in Ireland including Cork City Council, Dublin City Council, Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, Galway County Council, Limerick City Council and Waterford City and County Councils. It also supplies metered electricity to Central Government Offices and non-commercial public bodies.
