AN IRISH project management and process engineering group has expanded its operation into the US by buying a Massachusetts-based engineering firm.
DPS Engineering, which has offices in Dublin, Cork, the Netherlands and Singapore, has acquired Biometics LLP.
The terms of the deal have not been disclosed but, as part of the takeover, Biometics founder Dr Stephen Fitzpatrick will join the DPS board of directors when the acquisition is completed.
Biometics, an engineering consultancy specialising in biotechnology, employs 20 staff.
DPS managing director Frank Keogh said he was delighted with the deal.
"For some time we have been looking to expand our operations into North America. We believe the acquisition of Biometics is the ideal vehicle for that expansion," he said.
"We are particularly delighted that Steve Fitzpatrick, who has more than 35 years experience in the industry, will be joining the board of DPS. He will bring a wealth of experience and expertise to our team.
"I have no doubt the combination of the skills and expertise of DPS and Biometics will result in substantial growth in our combined business on both sides of the Atlantic."
DPS said Biometics' expertise in bio-pharmaceuticals and biomass would "complement our existing capabilities in process design and engineering for the pharmaceutical industry".
Biometics clients include Dow Chemicals, Celltech and Astra Zeneca. It recently secured the bio-processing facility project for the University of Massachusetts.
