Dimplex taps into bathroom by buying Galaxy Showers
ELECTRICAL heating and domestic appliance giant Glen Dimplex has acquired UK electrical shower manufacturer Galaxy Showers.
Chief executive Sean O'Driscoll said: "The deal may not be significant in terms of scale but it is very important in terms of our growth strategy.
"After the kitchen, the second highest spend by consumers is on refurbishing the bathroom. Our target for the last three or four years was to build up a portfolio of electrical products for the bathroom.
"We now have a complete product offering in this area. The Galaxy know-how and technology when combined with the group's existing brands, customer base and distribution skills gives us the opportunity to create a significant business in this rapidly growing household product category."
Galaxy, founded in 1996, had a turnover of stg£5m (?7m) last year and its products account for about 5pc of the UK and Irish electrical shower market.
Consumer spend in both markets is worth a combined stg£200m (?286m) every year.
Mr O'Driscoll said he expects this market share to grow strongly as the company challenges market leaders Trident, Mira and Gainsborough.
He said the electric shower market was limited by the fact that only the Irish, British, Malaysian and Muscovite plumbing systems were suitable for electrical shower usage.
He said Glen Dimplex intended to offers it new product range in Moscow where the group already has a significant presence.
Glen Dimplex has its headquarters in Ireland, has an annual turnover of ?1.3bn and employs 8,500 people worldwide.
