Digital Jet raising €5m to premiere movie service

WATCH out iTunes, there's a new Irish player in town. Irish digital media firm Digital Jet is in talks to raise €5m from venture capital firms and private investors as it prepares to launch an innovative new social media service, where users can view the latest movies, games, books and music on their phones, televisions and laptops.

Digital Jet, helmed by Niall O'Neill, has inked agreements with major studios and music firms to provide top blockbusters , games and albums to customers. Users may either pay to watch movies or play games or else use a free system funded by ad breaks.

The new service will start its trials in April with a view to rolling out the service in June as rival firms Netflix and Lovefilm.com continue to circle the Irish market.
