Irish-owned communications group Digicel has said its mobile and fixed line networks in several Caribbean islands were impacted by Hurricane Irma.

The islands of Anguilla, the British Virgin Islands and the Turks & Caicos Islands were the worst affected. Markets impacted by the storms represent 3pc of Digicel Group revenue, the company said.

"Our response teams have been working tirelessly across the affected areas to restore our networks," said Digicel Group CEO Colm Delves.

The group's insurance is expected to cover the cost of the damage incurred, subject to customary deductibles, Digicel said. The company has deployed hundreds of staff to restore services in the aftermath of the storms.

"I want to applaud the selfless efforts of our employees and network vendors as we help our communities recover and rebuild.

"We've provided credit and support to mobile customers in the affected markets, have made steady progress in restoring our customers' services and are focused on restoring complete services as soon as possible," Colm Delves said.
