CSO figures show Irish economy is in recession

The Irish economy is technically in a recession, according to the latest figures from the CSO.

The statistics agency says personal spending and capital investment have both fallen this year.

Capital investment was 19% lower in the second quarter of the year compared with the same period in 2007.

Industrial output was also down across a number of sectors, with construction showing a decline of more than 12%.
