Cork-based Wisetek Solutions, which provides IT asset disposal and secure data destruction services, has opened a new operations centre in Austin, Texas.

The announcement follows on from Wisetek’s merger in November 2017, of its US operations with Computer Discounters (CDI), which trades under the Wisetek DataKillers brand.

The Austin location will initially hire over 25 new employees, adding to the 250 plus employees that Wisetek currently has, and employee numbers are expected to grow well beyond that, the company said.

Commenting at the opening of the centre, which was attended by Minister for Business Heather Humphreys, Sean Sheehan, chief executive of, Wisetek, said he was delighted to have Minister Humphreys present to mark the official opening of the facility.

"Her presence is appropriate as we have received significant support from Enterprise Ireland, which has been important to us as we look to scale up our business in international markets."

Wisetek’s US operations are headquartered in Maryland, with other operational centres located in Massachusetts and California.

The opening of the centre marks a further expansion for the 11 year old company, which has existing facilities in Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

In November last year WEEE Ireland, Ireland’s largest electrical and battery recycling scheme, announced that it was to partner with Wisetek, in a move that will increase the nationwide collection of waste and retired IT equipment.
