Cork-based Wisetek Solutions has opened a new operations centre in Sacramento, California.

The US location will hire up to 20 people at the facility.

The company, which provides IT asset disposal and secure data destruction services, already has a US headquarters in Maryland, with operational centres in Massachusetts and Austin.

"The establishment of this facility highlights another milestone achievement for Wisetek in the continued growth and success of our US business," Sean Sheehan, founder and CEO of Wisetek, said.

"We are continuing to deliver on our promise to better support our new and existing IT manufacturing, data center and large IT user customers in the rapidly expanding IT secondary marketplace, whilst operating to the highest sustainability and circular economy principles."

The opening of the centre marks a further expansion for the 11 year old Enterprise Ireland-backed company, which has existing facilities in Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Commenting on the announcement, Greater Sacramento economic council chief executive Barry Broome said that Wisetak will help support the future of Sacramento’s hardware/high-tech manufacturing industry cluster.

"This is the second Irish company which has located to the Sacramento region in the last 24 months," Mr Broome said. "The Greater Sacramento economic council has built a foreign direct investment interface with Ireland."

In November last year WEEE Ireland, Ireland’s largest electrical and battery recycling scheme, announced that it was to partner with Wisetek, in a move that will increase the nationwide collection of waste and retired IT equipment.
