CONSUMER spending fell 0.3pc in February while the year-on-year drop was 1.9pc on a volume basis, new figures from the Central Statistics Office show.
If car sales are excluded the drop 2.1pc compared with last year.
Contributors to the monthly fall were cars, pub and book sales.
Increases were reported in sectors like department stores and electrical goods.
The value of retail sales fell by 0.1pc in February.
