ERNST and Young and Enterprise Ireland (EI) will bring a combined 3,500 overseas visitors to Ireland in conferences supporting The Gathering and the EU presidency
After tough competition from other international offices, the global accountancy firm has decided to host its 1,500-strong conference for its senior management promotion programme here in November. This will be the largest corporate 'Gathering' event of 2013.
Visitors will come from 87 countries and will contribute an estimated €3m to the economy.
The company says Ireland was chosen partly for cost competitiveness, venue options, culture and ease of access – 69pc of last year's participants could get direct flights to Ireland from 171 destinations.
Enterprise Ireland's series of conferences will bring more than 2,000 delegates to Ireland as part of the country's jobs-themed EU presidency. Three major events in June will look at business innovation, small businesses and nanotechnology.
