Comprehensive car insurance

Nothing better for the bank balance than coming home from holidays to be faced by a car insurance renewal quote. Ouch. But haggle and look for other quotes to save a fortune. Cover for a 2005 Renault Grand Scenic for a 41-year-old woman driver in Templeogue, Dublin 6w, with a 40-year-old male named driver. No claims or points. Cover for a detached house in Wexford town worth €250,000. Fully alarmed. Buildings cover of €125,000, with 20 per cent contents cover for a 35-year-old couple. We've gone for an excess of €500 compared with a normal one of about €250.

As if life wasn't tough enough for entrepreneurs and other small business owners, insurance cover for premises is a nasty whack out of any year's earnings. Commercial insurance for a dry cleaning business in Tralee with buildings cover of €200,000, fixtures and fittings €25,000 and stock in trade of €5,000
