Collison brothers make Forbes rich list

Limerick brothers Patrick and John Collison have made it on to the Forbes rich list for the first time.

The brothers each have wealth valued at €1.02bn, which they have accrued through their online payments system Stripe, putting them joint 1,795th on the list.

Younger brother John (26) is the youngest self-made billionaire to appear of the list, ahead of Snapchat founders Evan Spiegal and Bobby Murphy.

In total, there were eight Irish people named on the list.

Indian-Irish businessman Pallonji Mistry was ranked in 77th place overall with an estimated wealth of €13.3bn. Businessman and Digicel founder Denis O' Brien - the largest shareholder in Independent News and Media - also makes it on the list in 348th place with a fortune of €4.3bn.

Other Irish names on the list were John Grayken (€6.1bn), Campbell Soup heir John Dorrance (€2.5bn), Dermot Desmond (€1.8bn) and Martin Naughton (€1.6bn).

Bill Gates was the world's richest man with a personal fortune worth €80bn.

Warren Buffet was in second place with €75bn, while Amazon's Jeff Bezos was third with wealth of €67.8bn.

Spanish clothing tycoon Amancio Ortega was fourth with €66.4bn, while Facebook founder Mark Zuckerburg was fifth richest with a total wealth of €52bn.
