Citywest has €6m in event bookings

CITYWEST hotel has over €6m in pre-booked big events for the coming year, despite its parent company going into liquidation last week, the Irish Independent has learned.

It is also understood that more than 40 international and national groups have expressed "serious" interest in the hotel's business.

Businessman Jim Mansfield owns the company behind the hotel -- HSS -- which owes at least €192m to creditors, including Christy O'Connor Jnr and a company part-owned by developer and solicitor Noel Smyth.

However, the hotel remains open for business and is being run by the Dalata group, a specialist management firm established by former Jury's Doyle chief executive Pat McCann.

Big events to be hosted by the hotel next year include the World Irish Dancing championship, the People of the Year Awards, Vodafone All Stars, a World Darts event and a number of international boxing matches. "The €6m in business has been pre-booked and all events will go ahead," a banking source told the Irish Independent.
