Chicago Spire developer to make €30m film
DEVELOPER Garrett Kelleher's film production firm is making its biggest movie yet.
Starring Pierce Brosnan, Bill Nighy and Chinese star Fan Bingbing, The Moon and The Sun is a €30m budget fantasy adventure due to start filming in Australia in 2014.
Kelleher's Los Angeles-based studio Lightstream Pictures is co-producing the film, along with former Fox Studios chief executive and chairman Bill Mechanic, a close collaborator with Lightstream.
The movie is described as an 'adult fairytale' about the French King Louis XIV, with Brosnan playing the 'Sun King' who kidnaps a mermaid to steal its life force.
Avid film buff Kelleher has been involved in the movie business for a decade, since he helped raise money to back the making of Mel Gibson's Passion of Christ.
As chairman, but not a shareholder, at Lightstream, he has been involved in many films often without a credit, seeing it as a hobby and a passion.
Court proceedings related to Kelleher's Chicago Spire – a stalled Calatrava designed skyscraper development, are ongoing in the US.
