Charity hit by money worries

Roisin Burke

The year of the Ryan Report was one of "financial crisis" for the state's only charity supporting children who have suffered sexual abuse.

CARI's finances were in a "critical" state and it had to seek cash-flow support from AIB, CEO Mary Flaherty (above) said in its annual report last week. It "survived January 2009 only with the help of a short-term loan from our bankers," she said.

It has been forced to cut staff and drop services due to lack of funding, despite high demand, she said.
