C&C Group and Spanish-headquartered Mahou San Miguel have signed an agreement to brew several Tennent's products under licence in India - a fast-growing beer market.

As a first step, Tennent’s & Mahou India will launch Tennent’s Whisky Oak Aged Beer and Tennent’s IPA, the first authentic Indian Pale Ale, to be brewed in India.

Mahou India is a subsidiary of Mahou San Miguel, the Spanish-owned family firm which is also a market leader in Spain with a production share of 35.5pc.

The subsidiary is based in Gurgaon (Haryana) and has a production centre in Bhiwadi (Rajhastan).

Joris Brams, Managing Director of C&C Group’s International Division, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Mahou India, strengthening our position in the Indian market.  The deal strengthens Tennent’s presence in India, and we hope it allows for participation in the spectacular growth and premiumisation of the Indian Beer Market.”

Erik D’Auchamp, Chief Executive Officer of Mahou India, said: “This alliance is one step further in our long-term vocation in the region and an exciting opportunity to continue exploring with C&C Group new ways to satisfy the needs of the Indian market, innovating and contributing new value to a consumer who appreciates more and more the taste of a full flavoured beer."
