Car sales slump in April - CSO

CAR sales slumped in April as the number of new private vehicles registered fell 16pc to 9,388, new figures from the Central Statistics Office show.

The number of new goods vehicles licenced was 1,047 compared with 2,219 in the same period last year.

The total number of vehicles licenced was 15,417 cmpared with 18,321 last year.

The best selling brands were Volkswagen, Nissan, Toyota and Renault.

The licencing figures refer to vehicles taxed for road use only and classified by taxation class.
