Businesses feel cost of 14pc rise in reported crime
THERE were more than 2,500 crimes at businesses in the first half of this year, a 14pc increase, according to Carlow-based security specialists Netwatch.
The company said crime remains a significant issue for business. Its research showed weekends remain the most active time for criminal activity, with 43pc of crimes recorded on a Saturday or Sunday.
However, there has been a dramatic increase in mid-week crime compared to the same period last year with Tuesday incidents alone up by a quarter. The highest increases in incidents were recorded in the urban areas of Dublin, Galway and Limerick. Half of all crimes were carried out by lone intruders.
