Ambitious Irish start-ups have the opportunity to win prizes that will help accelerate their business at Ireland’s largest technology expo.

Six high potential entrants to the Wayra pitch competition will get the chance to pitch their ideas at Techconnect Live 2018.

The contest winner will walk away with three months acceleration in the London Academy, where they will have access to free office space in the centre of the city.

Wayra’s best-in-class coaches and a mentor will be available to the top performing start-up, who will also have the opportunity to pitch to partners such as Telefonica and O2.

Pop-up retail space group Popertee won the Wayra pitch competition last year and company CEO Lucinda Kelly said the win was "a pivotal point" for her business.

"Our next planned market was the UK and the prize enabled us to fasttrack this move to London at a price we could afford. I highly recommend entering this contest- if you are a winner it can only lead to bigger opportunities in a new export market for your business," she said.

Runners up prizes in the competition include fast track access to the Wayra finals and a business bootcamp day with the London Academy.

Organiser of TechConnect Live Colin Murphy said: "It’s encouraging for so many start-ups to have their efforts recognised and supported and this contest provides them with huge opportunity both here and abroad".

Over 5,000 business owners and entrepreneurs from across the country are expected to attend Techconnect Live, which will host 300 exhibitors and feature 150 speakers.

The event takes place at the RDS on May 30.
