Brambles edges out competition: family firm scoops Cliffs of Moher deal

Family-run catering firm Brambles has beaten off competition from four other firms to secure a €2.35m 10-year lease for the Cliffs View cafe at the Cliffs of Moher.

The Dublin-based catering company - run by husband and wife team Ciaran and Maeve Reid - already operates 22 cafes at a host of locations including the Dundrum Town Centre, the National Gallery of Ireland, Ceide Fields and Kilmainham Gaol. Brambles will replace the Clare Co Council-owned Cliffs of Moher Visitor Centre Ltd as operators of the 140-seater cafe located on the first floor of the visitor centre at the site.

The Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience (CMVE) is projecting similar figures for 2019 to last year.

The CMVE employs 110 staff during peak season with 50 staff employed in tenant companies at the site.

At the end of 2018, Brambles Deli Cafe Ltd was sitting on accumulated profits of €2.78m. The firm's cash pile increased from €1.78m to €2m. Over 10 of the Reid family are employed in the business with total numbers employed at the business at 261 with staff costs in 2018 amounting to €5m. Pay to directors at the company last year totalled €443,755 made up of salary of €200,000 and pension contributions of €243,755.
