Boylesports has bought six betting shops from Bambury Bookmakers in Munster, the Sunday Independent understands.

The deal is expected to be announced next week. The shops are located across Limerick and Clare in locations including Castletroy, Sixmilebridge and on Wolfe Tone St in Limerick city.

Boylesports declined to comment. Earlier this year the company bought nine outlets from Bambury in Leinster.

The company has previously spoken of its desire to increase its retail footprint as it looks to compete against major listed bookmakers such as Paddy Power Betfair and Ladbrokes Coral.

Speaking shortly after the Leinster deal was announced, Boylesports chief financial officer Mark O'Neill said the company was "ready and willing to look at any opportunities".

"We're a growth organisation... if we could get another 30 or 40 stores in Ireland over the next 12-18 months, that would be the stated aim."

O'Neill also said the company was looking to establish itself in the retail market in the UK. After failing to acquire stores that came to market as part of regulatory conditions attached to the Ladbrokes-Coral merger, he said it would look to independent regional players.
