MOVES are afoot today to bring businessman Denis O’Brien in front of the Oireachtas Banking Inquiry.
Fianna Fail Finance spokesperson Michael McGrath has asked for the issue to be discussed at a private meeting of the inquiry on Tuesday, RTE reported.
He proposed that Mr O’Brien be brought in front of the inquiry over his relationship with the Irish Bank Resolution Corporation (IBRC). He made the claim in a letter that has been circulated among inquiry members.
But committee sources have warned that the move could prove extremely problematic due to the IBRC inquiry that is now established.
Fianna Fail senator Marc MacSharry told independent.ie that his party believes there is significant merit in bringing Mr O’Brien in front of the inquiry.
