AIB names FitzGerald as EBS head
ALLIED Irish Banks has appointed Des FitzGerald as the new chief executive of EBS, as it prepares to enter the "next phase" of the bank's resizing.
AIB chief executive David Duffy announced Mr FitzGerald's appointment to staff yesterday. The bank also named Enda Johnson as head of corporate affairs and strategy.
The bank is to publish a booklet for staff outlining its strategy for the future of the bank, known as "One Bank".
"A great deal of progress has been made in achieving a new, customer-focused, One Bank strategy for AIB and this process is continuing to evolve," he said.
"We are already moving to the next phase, which will see our strategy becoming fully embedded in the way we work together to manage our business and better serve our customers.
"I would ask you to take the time to consider this document thoroughly. It is important everyone understands the progress made so far and the future direction of the bank."
AIB is seeking some 2,500 redundancies as well as pay cuts and reductions in other perks. Banking union IBOA has already rejected some of the bank's plans.
