AIB is to outsource 170 technology jobs to Eircom, Wipro and Integrity, staff were told today.

Around 250  staff at the bank’s infrastructure and technology operations and information security teams were called to the meeting on the bank’s so-called ‘Project Orion’ plans.

“AIB today confirmed that it is entering into a process of consultation with employee representatives to discuss the banks’ plan to outsource a number of its IT services,” a spokeswoman said.

Jobs minister Richard Bruton said today outsourcing was part of the restructuring at AIB.

The IBOA's Larry Broderick said the union welcomed that there were no compulsory redundancies but it is concerned about workers' pay and terms and conditions.

He added that there appears to be a five year agreement between the the bank and the outsource companies involved.
