Ah go on, you'll have some Mrs Doyle's fluffy green tea
MRS Doyle, the character from the TV series Father Ted, is probably one of the most famous advocates of tea around. So it's no surprise that an Irish company is now selling tea bearing her name.
The company, Mrs Doyle's Tea, was set up about nine months ago by Katya Quinlan, Heather Kingston, Liz Burns, and Shay McGreavey.
"We have a happy tea, a chill-out tea, and a fluffy green tea as well as the normal Irish breakfast tea," said McGreavey. "We have a hangover tea – with spearmint and milk thistle to ease the belly. We also sell chocolates and jam, and we will be selling teapots."
The company largely sells its tea as a novelty product. "We sell our teas to several Avoca and Kilkenny shops," said McGreavey. "You can buy a cup of Mrs Doyle's teas in cafes such as the Science Gallery in Dublin and in the main Kilkenny cafe on Nassau Street. We have also been selling online since Christmas to customers all over the world."
Mrs Doyle's Tea also has had a tea tent at Electric Picnic for the last two years.
It took the company about two years to secure the trademark for Mrs Doyle's Tea, according to McGreavey. It's early days but its tea is selling well. "Our tea tends to sell out in the stores that stock it every three days," said McGreavey. "The tea is aimed at people in their mid- to late 20s. Tourists are also big fans. Most people get the Mrs Doyle connection."
