Aer Lingus passenger numbers up in August

Transatlantic passenger numbers with Aer Lingus rose by more than a fifth over the last year.

New figures show the total number of air passengers that flew with the airline soared to 1.205 million people last month - up 7pc on August 2013.

Short haul traffic increased by 3.3pc to 913,000 passengers, while transatlantic travellers jumped by 22pc to 148,000.

“The overall passenger load factor for the month was up 1.2 percentage points to 87.8pc,” the airline added.

"The short haul passenger load factor increased to 83.5pc from 82.1pc in August 2013, whilst the long haul load factor was 94.1pc compared to 94.9pc in August the previous year."
